Think of country music and Shakira is probably not the first artist that comes to mind. However, her genre-bending skills were on full display at the Academy of Country Music Awards in Las Vegas where she teamed up with fellow The Voice coach Blake Shelton for a duet. Their performance of the song Medicine from Shakira’s latest album wowed audiences, as did her striking outfit – a red bustier dress by Kristian Aadnevik paired with thigh-high boots.
Although Blake and Shakira’s performance was full of sparks, they are both in happy relationships with other individuals. Shakira is with her soccer star beau Gerard Pique, with whom she shares an adorable 13-month-old son named Milan. Meanwhile, Blake has been married to country music sensation Miranda Lambert since 2011.
Last month, Shakira attempted to undermine Blake on The Voice by enlisting Miranda’s help. She had disclosed her intention to emulate Blake’s strategies closely since he had won three consecutive seasons. The Latin American pop icon turned to the one individual who was most familiar with Blake – his wife, a country music star.
Shakira sought Miranda’s guidance in preparing her contestants for the important battle rounds. During their conversation, Shakira also asked Miranda for tips on how to defeat her husband Blake. “You’re instrumental in my plan to beat Blake,” Shakira confided in Miranda, who responded with enthusiasm, “You’ve come to the right person.”
The talented singer from The Voice definitely made a statement with her bold outfit during her performance of a track from her most recent album. It was truly stunning and eye-catching!
Shakira revealed that she sought the help of someone who is well-versed in Blake Shelton’s music, which turned out to be Miranda. The latter appeared to enjoy her newfound role and even expressed her delight in being a representation of girl power by going against her husband. Shakira plans to use Miranda’s insights to bring down Blake in the competition.
Blake Shelton and Shakira’s performance together was a definite highlight of the evening – it was truly the best medicine for the soul!
